Sons of Confederate Veterans
Walter D. (Donnie) Kennedy is a life member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and is best known as the co-author, along with his twin brother, of several pro-South books. The most notable book the Kennedy Twins have written is The South Was Right which has sold over 150,000 copies. Professionally, Donnie graduated from Mississippi Baptist Medical school of Respiratory Therapy, 1966, University of Louisiana Monroe with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, 1978, and Charlotte Memorial School of Anesthesia, 1983. He is currently retired.
Donnie, and his twin brother, collectively known as the Kennedy Twins, have been highlighted by various media outlets for their pro-South advocacy of limited government, that is, real States' Rights, which have led to several interviews and TV appearances. The Kennedy Twins have been interviewed by numerous local and national talk radio shows including Col. Oliver North's radio show, Alan Comes radio show, Bill Maher's show Politically Incorrect, BBC, and French National TV.
From 2018 to July of 2022 Donnie served as Chief of Heritage Operations for the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV). In July of 2024 Donnie was Commander-in-Chief of the SCV. Donnie also served as Commander of the Louisiana Division SCV. He has received special recognition awards from the SCV, including the Robert E. Lee Medal and the Jefferson Davis Medal. Both he and his twin brother were awarded the Jefferson Davis Historical Gold Medal from the United Daughters of the Confederacy and numerous other awards from various Southern Heritage organizations.
